The beautiful and undeveloped Savage River Reservoir and Jennings Randolph Lake are the places where the All Earth Eco Kayaking
Trips are offered. These large winding lakes are beautiful, quiet,
and in the heart of the regions
tallest and most pristine mountains. The Savage is where our standard eco tour takes place and features pristine surroundings and no motor boat traffic.

Savage Rez Info
The two highest mountains in
the State, Big Savage Mountain and Backbone Mountain meet at the Reservoir
Dam. This area boasts ABSOLUTELY NO powerlines, and very little man-made
noise except the birds and the wind, and the occassional vehicle on the lonely road along its shore.
One side of the reservoir is
within the Big Savage Mountain Wildlands and the rest is Savage State
Forest and Big Run State Park. We often see the nesting pair of American Bald Eagles and their juvenile fledglings, deer, , loons, blue herons, green
herons, red tailed hawks, vultures, and bear sign.
All Earth Eco Kayak Tours are a great experience for
folks of all ages interested in trying out flatwater kayak touring.
What You Will Do: We start you off right with a brief dry land kayak lesson and kayaking
class on technique, safety, and equipment.
We then take a tour on
the lake, and make a stop on Big Savage Pine Swamp Point for a scenic
picnic. After lunch we stretch and often take a short (optional) side hike (uphill)
to a beautiful view overlooking the water and forested mountains.
We then kayak back to Dry Run Cove.
The lake is calm enough and un-crowded
so the group can spread out with no danger of being run over by a
motorboat or tipped by big wakes. The uncrowded atmosphere on the
lake means that some folks can paddle a lot and explore the shorelines and coves, and some can just float
and relax, and watch the eagles soar. There's no pressure to travel
far or keep up. Total time in the boats is about 2-2½ hours.
Quiet water, and stupendous
views and scenery make this trip a must see for Garrett County 1st
time or lifetime visitors.
Wildlife is spotted on almost every
trip. The Bald Eagles have even been seen fishing and catching fish
on the wing right in front of the trip

Trips Run Rain or Shine. You are expected to show up at the Dry
Run put-in regardless of the weather. Scattered thunderstorms
can pretty much be the weather pattern all summer. Guide carries
a rain tarp to cover lunch and a little rain is always refreshing.
The weather at the Lake is not a good indicator of the weather
at the reservoir since the reservoir is 700 feet below Deep Creek
Lake in elevation and at times DCL is in the clouds and rainy
and the reservoir is below the clouds and just overcast.
